Food For Humans

One of the coldest, unmoving realities of being an adult: figuring out what the heck to make for dinner every night until you die. No matter what else happens, at the end of the day, we all need to eat.

The world feels like it’s ending, the cost of food is rising, wages are stagnating, tech-boom isolation is closing in, content is written by robots, Paris is burning, and Venice is underwater. Yet, you still have to make dinner. And you have to do it every night.

I can’t fix the world, nor can I fix the humdrum realities of adult life. Here’s what I can offer: empathy, hope, advice, thoughts, reading recommendations, and, most importantly, ideas for how to make the Sisyphean task of making dinner bring you joy rather than dread.

What to Expect (and not expect)

My newsletter in your inbox every month with thoughts, ideas, and recommended reading related to food and cooking. You can expect recipe ideas (but not always actual written recipes) for dinners that will make you happy rather than sad and ways to keep food interesting and affordable. You can also expect advice and guides on how to make food without relying on recipes, how to feel more confident in the kitchen, how to bring yourself a little luxury on a budget and on a Tuesday.

Some things you won’t find in these newsletters:

  • diet culture of any kind

  • imperial measurements (metric system only in my house)

  • quinoa and bell peppers (sorry I think they’re icky and don’t like them)

About me

I’m Emily. A single woman of marrying and childbearing age with no money and no prospects. I’m a writer, editor, and tote bag enthusiast based in Washington, D.C. In my free time, I maintain an effusive but elegant lifestyle full of hiking, going to the movies, watching sports, and being devastatingly cool at the farmer’s market.
